Site de la Société Française de Radiologie (SFR)
(In French) Site of the
French Company of Radiology (SFR) )December 17, 1908, twelve
men met in the residence of the one of them, in Paris. It is
Antoine Béclère, Hyacinthe Guilleminot, George Haret, Paul
Aubourg, Passier, Darbois, Joseph Belot, Leon Bouchacourt,
Lenglet, Eugene Beaujard, Rene Ledoux-Lebard, Felix Lobligeois.
They all are of the enthusiastic followers of this new
discipline, medical Radiology, still little developed, although
the discovery of Roentgen goes back already to 13 years. Antoine
Béclère, doctor of the hospitals, specialist in the infectious
diseases, believed, from the very start, with the extraordinary
possibilities which with medicine these marvelous x-rays opened.
It installed, since 1897, a station of radioscopy in its ward of
Tenon; there was no electrical current and the installation
comprised, like generator, an electrostatic machine moults with
the hand; the days of moisture, it had to be started with a
finger charged with solid gold. When Béclère was transferred to
Saint-Anthony, it, there too, created with its expenses, a
radiological laboratory. George Haret and Joseph Belot form part
of the hospital team of Béclère; Belot published, in 1905, a
Treaty of Radiotherapy. Bouchacourt, Aubourg, Darbois, Rene
Ledoux-Lebard are already famous radiologists. All these young
men - they have about thirty or forty - are doctors, all have
hospital functions. All share with enthusiasm the point of view
of Béclère: Radiology is a clinical science. "No one - is liked
it to repeat - cannot become a good radiologist without being
before a good clinician". Béclère fights for a laboratory of
radiology is installed in each hospital and for it is entrusted
to a doctor.
