OVMC’s
Radiologic Technology Program Welcomes New Students
Ohio Valley Medical Center’s Radiologic Technology
Program welcomed ten new students for the Class of 2010. These new
students will join ten, second year, students already in the
program.
Established in 1954, OVMC’s Radiologic Technology
Program is a 24-month clinical and classroom activity based
instructional curriculum. Along with the scheduled classroom time,
the program incorporates clinical experience at OVMC and East Ohio
Regional Hospital to develop the theory, skills and aptitude of
modern radiographers.
This year marks a change in the enrollment at
OVMC’s Radiologic Technology Program. The program was granted an
increase in the number of students that can be enrolled as first
year students. The total number of first and second year students in
OVMC’s Radiologic Technology Program now reaches 20.
OVMC’s Radiologic Technology Program also formed
an academic partnership with Belmont Technical College as well as a
standing relationship with West Virginia Northern Community College.
The partnerships allow students, once they complete the radiologic
technology program and pass the national registry examination, to
enter either college program with course credits that can be applied
to an associate’s degree. Several students in the 2006 class are
taking advantage of the new partnerships.
The field of Radiologic Technology includes some
of the most rapidly advancing careers in health care. Recent changes
in technology, the ever-increasing use of highly sophisticated
equipment and the expansion of radiology departments have created a
sharp demand for individuals educated in this field.
Clinical experience includes diagnostic radiology;
surgical procedures; mobile x-ray equipment and radiation
protection; plus familiarization with ultrasound, magnetic resonance
imaging, CT scanning, nuclear medicine, and radiation oncology.
The Instructors in the Radiologic Technology
Program have over 85 years combined experience in radiology. The
instructors are also certified in a range of fields including
mammography, quality assurance, and ultrasound.
"The Ohio Valley Medical Center Program of
Radiologic Technology is committed to providing its students with a
quality education so they may provide quality healthcare services to
their patients," said Catherine Ball, Program Director
The students will graduate with approximately
1,200 didactic hours and 2,550 clinical hours. After completing the
program, the graduates will be eligible to sit for the American
Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
